Unfamiliar topics and scarce sources posed challenges; I learned to search related terms, bullet key points, and submit the best available evidence. A highlight was co-authoring EVC’s “Deadly Earthquake Rattles Myanmar and its Neighbors.” I also complete research assigned by my mentor, Marcin, or project coordinator, Olimpia often on Southeast Asia or Taiwan. Contributions include reports on Taiwan’s ODA (New Southbound Policy aid to Southeast Asia), foreign-supported infrastructure and the Global Gateway in Thailand, an overview of Fiji’s geography/economy/politics, and Australia’s investment and aid in Fiji. I also compile a weekly brief of three major political/international stories. This internship broadened my view of NGOs and think tanks, showed how small improvements matter, and connected me with colleagues from across Europe whose support and advice I deeply appreciate.I feel that this internship has been one of my most cherished experiences. I learned many new things related to democracy and gained valuable skills, such as working with people from different cultures.
