【News Reshare】 FamilyMart collaborates with One-Forty to launch the "Migrant Worker Friendly Service Project"

Taiwan has seen a notable increase in its migrant worker population, particularly from Southeast Asia, reaching nearly one million people. FamilyMart and One-Forty, a nonprofit dedicated to migrant worker education, jointly released Taiwan's inaugural "Convenience Store Migrant Worker Survey" on July 2. The survey underscores convenience stores as crucial "third spaces" for migrant workers, visited on average every two days for essentials and community engagement, bridging gaps beyond work and residence.

FamilyMart's CEO, Hsueh Tung-tu, highlighted the integral role of migrant workers in Taiwanese society and announced the launch of the "Migrant Worker Friendly Service Project" with One-Forty. This initiative aims to enhance inclusivity at convenience stores by addressing language and cultural barriers.

Kevin Chen, founder of One-Forty, emphasized their ongoing commitment to Southeast Asian communities and mutual understanding with Taiwanese society, citing language as a primary challenge. The survey revealed convenience stores as pivotal for daily needs and social interactions, prompting FamilyMart to introduce multilingual communication tools and catered menu options to better serve migrant workers.

One-Forty is a prominent partner of NTU's iNGO Academy, hosting NTU students for internships annually. We are confident that this year we will see more NTU students joining One-Forty via the iNGO Academy, and together, we will contribute to making Taiwanese society more diverse and welcoming for migrants from all over the world.
