My internship at UBI Taiwan, working directly under Tyler, the founder, has been an enriching experience. Unlike internships limited to administrative tasks, my role allowed me to contribute to meaningful projects while learning about how an iNGO operates. I worked on three main projects with two other interns: organizing an info session for the Debate Tournament and Youth Scholars Program, assisting with UBI’s annual charity fundraiser, and conducting research comparing Universal Basic Income and targeted transfers in Indonesia while helping design a website for the Youth Scholars Program. These projects taught me the importance of outreach, research-based advocacy, and strategic communication. I also participated in workshops with BIEN interns from China, where experts such as Dr. Sarath Davala shared findings from UBI pilot programs. These sessions expanded my perspective on UBI’s global applications. Another highlight was UBI’s Welcoming Event, where I connected with core team members and volunteers committed to tackling inequality. The second half of the internship continued these projects but also included new experiences, such as creating social media content and hosting an info session online. These challenges, along with delays in publishing the website, showed me the realities of NGO work. Overall, this internship deepened my understanding of UBI and affirmed my interest in research, policy, and community development.
