During my internship at The Mustard Seed Mission, I worked on three major projects: preparing a handbook for French volunteers, planning a recruitment and cultural exchange program in Malaysia, and designing science lesson plans for Shezi Island students. These experiences reshaped my understanding of NGO work, showing me that behind-the-scenes preparation is just as vital as direct service. For the French volunteer project, I joined the process from interviews to handbook design, learning how to balance detail with a broader perspective. Meeting the volunteer in person and exchanging cultural insights was a rewarding conclusion to this work. In the Malaysia project, I explored Sarawak’s environmental challenges and realized that volunteering can serve as a bridge for cross-cultural understanding. My favorite experience was teaching DNA and genetics to children on Shezi Island, where I learned how to simplify complex topics into fun and engaging lessons. Beyond these projects, I supported research and outreach activities that highlighted the collaborative nature of NGOs. This internship deepened my sense of responsibility and affirmed my commitment to meaningful cross-cultural service.
