I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship experience at LFT. It was a brilliant opportunity to gain experience in a field I am very interested in whilst also experiencing what it is like in a Taiwanese workplace. I began by preparing a presentation about myself, then researched potential critical thinking tests such as the Watson-Glaser and CCTST, ACER’s five skills framework, and countries incorporating critical thinking into their systems. I also assisted with the office move from Impact Hub Taipei to NPO Hub Taipei. Most of my work was research-based, including data analysis, which was outside my comfort zone but very useful. This developed my skills in conducting research for professional rather than purely academic purposes. I also interacted with colleagues such as Bob, Shania, and Jo, and enjoyed meeting people through events like the picnics in May. These were fun social opportunities and good chances to practice my Chinese. From this internship, I learnt two key things about iNGOs: how administrative they are behind the scenes, and how self-motivated people must be. Compared to businesses, there are fewer clear instructions, so one has to be more proactive. This experience illuminated the difficulties of sustaining an iNGO, especially revenue challenges, while also showing me the passion and motivation of those who work in this field.
