Since I had already been following the work of UBI Taiwan, being able to join the organization through a school program felt like a dream come true. During the internship, I was mainly responsible for preparing the youth program information session, debate competition, and charity fundraising event. Tasks included finding venues, promoting events, contacting performers, and handling last-minute assignments. We also joined weekly office meetings in Taipei and online updates with Tyler. Through these projects, I came to see how advocacy requires diverse approaches, often demanding expertise we did not yet have. For example, organizing the debate faced challenges due to lack of prior experience, and fundraising raised questions about how to persuade people to donate effectively. I also saw a very real side of advocacy work: pushing forward idealistic causes still means facing the realities of the present world. For instance, some people gave up their previous jobs to commit to advocacy, but they still have to deal with making a living…Nevertheless, these observations made me realize that the pursuit of a goal may carry a deeper meaning in and of itself, because none of us can truly predict what will happen once the goal is actually achieved.
