I realized that writing the proposal and standing at the booth were both training me to do the same thing: How can you make people care? The proposal demanded that I justify why the activities will help the vulnerable children, while the booth demanded that I communicate the mission of Good Neighbors to strangers in seconds. Truly, this internship has shined light upon the pros and the cons: the hard work of building something meaningful quietly, and the humbling reality of how it could be difficult to show that meaning to the world.
