As an intern at the Garden of Hope Foundation’s International Affairs Center, I worked closely with the Asian Network of Women’s Shelters (ANWS), a platform that connects organizations across Asia to share best practices on gender-based violence prevention. I also contributed to the ANWS Regional Webinar, which served as preparation for the upcoming World Conference of Women’s Shelters. Taking minutes in a diverse, multilingual setting was challenging, but I learned to use Zoom subtitles and structured my notes into bullet points before drafting a clear recap. Beyond events, I collaborated with Tsunagu on a research project for the Australian government exploring climate change impacts on vulnerable women and girls, and I supported translation tasks in Mandarin and English.Through the internship I learned about that for NGOs it is important to form a network and get in touch with other organizations. GOH, as the secretariat of ANWS, always works hard on sharing Taiwanese practices on gender-based violence prevention and victims’ protections with the other members of ANWS. Although the consequences cannot be observed immediately, or be evaluated with quantitative figure, everything we are working on is essential to achieve the goal to ‘create the world free from violence’.
